CHIP 101.9 presents annual report for previous financial year
On December 11, Pontiac’s Community Radio, CHIP 101.9, held their annual general meeting, presenting reports on their activities and finances for the 2023/24 financial year. The year was a tumultuous one for the station, with Director François Carrier departing in March after 13 years at the helm and the launch of a new Chase the Ace lottery. A non-profit organization, the station’s mission is to inform and engage the community with local news and information.
Though expenses rose slightly from the previous year ($834,129 compared to $818,946) there was a drop in revenues of around $80,000 ($709,992 compared to $791,687 last year) leading to a deficit of $124,137. Interim Director Geneviève Gagnon explained in the annual report that on top of inflation and other external factors, there were significant decreases in government advertising revenue as well as grant funding. She highlighted the funds that CHIP has invested in previous years, which have allowed the station to weather this year of transition.
In the annual report, the organization’s President Diane Grenier thanked the staff for their work and highlighted the station’s role in the community.
“The crisis in media has led to the closure of certain publications and many hundreds of jobs, and Pontiac’s Community Radio has put in place important investments allowing us to further develop our services and invest in our community,” she wrote (translated).
