André Fortin talks Quebec Liberal leadership race, flood maps

André Fortin talks Quebec Liberal leadership race, flood maps

18 June 2025 à 9:58 am

With the National Assembly in summer recess, Pontiac MNA André Fortin stopped by CHIP 101.9’s studios to discuss the recently concluded Quebec Liberal leadership race, as well as other provincial issues affecting the region.

Former federal cabinet minister Pablo Rodriguez was selected over the weekend as the PLQ’s new leader following a contest that officially started in January of this year. The party has been without a permanent leader since Dominique Anglade stepped down following a historic defeat in the 2022 election, with the PLQ winning 21 seats but less overall votes than both Québec solidaire and the Parti Québécois.

Though Fortin campaigned for the runner-up, Charles Milliard, he said that he hopes the new leader adopts some of Milliard’s priorities, such as support for Quebec’s rural regions.

Fortin said the most important development in the previous parliamentary session was Quebec’s credit rating being downgraded in April, something he said was driving a lot of the cuts to various provincial services.

Fortin also spoke about the ongoing update to the province’s flood maps, which he said could have big impacts in the Pontiac’s riverside municipalities.

The full interview with Fortin (13m) is available here.
