Women’s hockey tournament caps successful start for Fort-Coulonge group

2 April 2025 à 3:50 pm

This past Saturday (March 29), the Centre des Loisirs des Draveurs in Fort-Coulonge was the host of an all women’s hockey tournament, with players coming from as far as Kemptville and Ottawa. The tournament winners were the Onetimers from Gatineau.

Organizer Lisa Soucie explained she had started a Monday night pick-up game for women at the Fort-Coulonge arena this season, as a fun way to keep active and meet other local players. She said that they eventually started playing exhibition games with other local groups, and decided to have a tournament. She said that other than another pick-up game in Chapeau, there weren’t many options as far as women’s hockey in the area.

She said that while it was still early to calculate how much the tournament brought in, she was planning to put the funds towards their team, the Pontiac Meteors. She said the group was talking about trying ball hockey during the summer months.

The full interview with Soucie (3m25) is available here.
