Waltham requests speed reduction on Hwy 148 from Davidson

28 October 2019 à 12:00 am

The Municipality of Waltham has issued a request to the ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) to reduce the speed limit on highway 148, between Davidson and Waltham, to allow all-terrain vehicles (ATV) to circulate legally on the highway, as a way for the PPJ, between Davidson and Waltham, to remain solely for cyclists. The director general of the municipality of Waltham, Fernand Roy, gave more details.

The Waltham council has requested to reduce the speed limit from 90 km/h to 80km/h for the 7km stretch of the highway.

At their most recent meeting, the mayors of the MRC Pontiac supported Waltham’s resolution and it’s request. They have also recommended that the Municipality of Waltham ask the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH) to support the resolution issued to the MTQ as a way to facilitate the process and approval of the resolution.

If the request on highway 148 is denied by the MTQ, Waltham plans to look in to possibly share the PPJ. Once again, Fernand Roy.

Currently, the municipality of Waltham is waiting for a decision from the ministry that, according to Roy, will hopefully come in a few months. The full interview with the Director General of the Municipality Waltham, Fernand Roy, is available here.
