Two local teens competing in U20 Canadian Fastpitch Championship

Two teenagers from the Pontiac, Cade Kuehl of Shawville and Hunter Beauregard of Campbell’s Bay, are competing for Team Quebec in the U20 Men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship taking place in Carp, Ont. this week (August 20 to 25).

Kuehl, a catcher, is coming off a gold medal win at the U17 Championship earlier this month, where he played a role in their 2-1 win over Napanee Express in the final match.

He said that being a little closer to home, he anticipated a good group of friends and family would be at this week’s tournament. He added that the main difference in the older age category is the speed and accuracy of the pitching.

This is the second national championship for Beauregard, a first-baseman, having finished 5th with Team Quebec in the U20s last year. He said he and Kuehl were connected to the Quebec squad through Matt Greer, a teacher at Pontiac High School who they play with in the Shawville and Greater Ottawa fastpitch leagues.
