Three-Vehicle Head-On Collision on Route 148 in the Pontiac
The past several hours have been particularly busy for police and emergency services in the MRC des Collines. On December 13, no fewer than 20 collisions and vehicles leaving the roadway were reported, as a result of hazardous road conditions and periods of heavy snowfall throughout the day.
At approximately 4:10 p.m., a head-on collision involving three vehicles occurred near 1518 Route 148 in the Pontiac. A 35-year-old woman from the Pontiac, who was travelling eastbound in a Ford truck, crossed into oncoming traffic. She first struck a Ford Edge towing a trailer, then collided head-on with a second vehicle, a Lincoln.
Inside the Lincoln were a 7-year-old child and a couple, both aged 58, from the Pontiac. The male driver was trapped in the vehicle for nearly an hour while the Pontiac Fire Department used extraction tools to free him. He was transported to the Outaouais Hospital Centre (CHVO) to be treated for serious injuries that, fortunately, are not life-threatening. The child and the woman were also taken to CHVO as a precaution, though they showed no apparent injuries.
In addition to the difficult road conditions, the driver of the Ford truck underwent a blood test after police developed reasonable grounds to believe she was impaired by alcohol and drugs. She also sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Later that evening, at around 10:40 p.m., a Cantley resident called 911 to report erratic driving on Montée de la Source in Cantley. She urged police to intervene, stating that the vehicle had narrowly avoided three collisions by repeatedly driving into oncoming traffic.
A 54-year-old man from Cantley was quickly arrested. Breath samples revealed a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. His vehicle was seized and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. He is also scheduled to appear in Criminal Court in 2026.
