Thorne tackles “donuts” on its streets

Thorne tackles “donuts” on its streets

4 August 2025 à 11:56 am

The Municipality of Thorne has shared its concerns with its citizens about the sometimes reckless and inappropriate driving behavior of certain motorists and ATV riders on its roads. In fact, Thorne public works employees say they have noticed that motorists are taking advantage of the municipality’s roads to perform what is known in slang as “donuts.” This type of donut has nothing to do with food or fast food restaurants, but rather refers to daring maneuvers that violate traffic laws and can impact road safety and damage the road network.

This type of maneuver, known as a “beigne” in French and often referred to by the English term “donut,” is when the driver spins the vehicle in a circle on the spot, creating a circular mark on the road with the tires. While highlighting the efforts of its employees who strive to maintain a high-quality road network, the Municipality of Thorne has asked for the cooperation of its citizens.

“The Municipality would like to highlight the remarkable work of its municipal employees, who devote their time and effort to preserving and properly maintaining our road network. Their dedication ensures that roads remain safe and accessible for all residents and visitors,” said the Municipality of Thorne in its communication to residents. In addition to reiterating the importance of public safety, the Municipality of Thorne points out that this type of behavior can have an impact on road maintenance costs, as maintaining our roads also represents a significant financial investment for the Municipality. That is why we ask all users, especially drivers of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), to show respect for our roads. We have received several reports of damaging maneuvers, such as “donuts,” being performed on municipal roads. These actions cause premature deterioration of the roads and negate the efforts and resources invested in their maintenance,” says the municipality, which attracts many visitors during the summer, thanks in part to the Ladysmith area.

“We are counting on everyone’s cooperation to preserve the quality of our roads for the benefit of the entire community,” emphasized the Municipality of Thorne in a communication addressed to its residents and road users within its territory.
