The Grand Museum Project Reaches a Major Milestone
At the beginning of summer, a major milestone was reached in the realization of the Grand Museum project. The MRO (Musée régional de l’Outaouais) submitted the Functional and Technical Program (FTP) of the Grand Museum—a document of over a thousand pages—to the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications. This document forms the foundation for the design work, on which the preliminary plans and detailed specifications will subsequently be developed. Stephen Quick, the museum’s director general, explains the content of this document and the work that has been completed:
A business plan prepared by the firm Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton, along with a market study, was also submitted.
Additionally, this summer, the MRO presented its first large-scale exhibition, Guy Lafleur: From Dream to Legend, in downtown Gatineau (Hull sector). The exhibition is now on display at Gatineau’s Slush Puppie Sports Centre. Again, Stephen Quick provides more details:
A 3D virtual tour of the exhibition is currently in preparation. Several other projects are planned for the coming months, including a collaboration with the MRC Pontiac to provide documents on the history of the Outaouais region that teachers can incorporate into their curriculum, across all schools in the greater Outaouais and Pontiac areas. Stephen Quick explains the next steps in their planning:
The Musée régional de l’Outaouais is launching a major fundraising campaign with an ambitious goal: to raise $100,000 to continue offering free activities to the community and advance the project for our future permanent museum in the former E.B. Eddy factories. By contributing, you help preserve and share the heritage of our region.
