Provincial Alert to Quickly Locate Missing Seniors
Provincial Alert to Quickly Locate Missing Seniors
The Fédération québécoise des Sociétés Alzheimer welcomes the provincial rollout of the SILVER Alert. This media alert system is designed to quickly mobilize the public when a vulnerable senior living with a major neurocognitive disorder goes missing.
Broadcast through traditional media, social networks, and police websites, the alert will feature a distinctive logo to make identification easier. The FQSA emphasizes that activation is exclusively handled by the police, while it supports families and caregivers by providing reliable information and practical tools.
The SILVER Alert was successfully tested during a 2023 pilot project in three regional counties, and its provincial deployment is expected to save lives by speeding up searches and increasing citizen vigilance.
To help with prevention, the FQSA encourages families to keep an updated identification sheet with a photo and contact information to facilitate police intervention in the event of a disappearance.
