A Pontiac woman was arrested just east of Gatineau on Sunday night (July 20) for driving while impaired by alcohol with her two young children in the vehicle.

Le Droit reported Tuesday morning (July 22) that officers from the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police observed the woman’s erratic driving when they stopped the car in L’Ange-Gardien.

According to Le Droit, the woman’s partner was also in the vehicle, but he did not have a driver’s license and was even more intoxicated than the driver.

“The concern in this case is that the parents were traveling in this state with two babies,” the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police service reported. One of the children is under six months-old.

Police said the mother, in her thirties, provided breath samples indicating a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. Her license was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The woman will appear in court at an undetermined date. The children were taken to a family friend’s house with the father, police said.

CHIP 101.9 has reached out to the MRC des Collines police for more information but they did not respond in time for publication.
