Pontiac MP Chatel endorses Mark Carney for Liberal leadership

On Wednesday (January 15), Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel endorsed Mark Carney for the leadership of the federal Liberal Party. Carney is the former Governor of the Bank of Canada as well as the Bank of England, and launched his leadership campaign on January 16.

In her statement, Chatel noted that the decision had come after discussions with her riding association and local party members.

“In consulting with Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi Liberals and my Association’s board, a clear consensus emerged,” she wrote in a post on social media. “The qualities and values that Canadians seek in their next leader are the ability to lead Canada back toward fiscal prudence, a steady hand to navigate the geopolitical turbulence ahead, and a visionary leader who can unlock Canada’s economic potential while meeting the challenges of climate change.”
