Pembroke man with outstanding warrants arrested after speeding in stolen vehicle
A 39-year-old man from Pembroke is facing several charges after he was caught speeding in Litchfield Sunday morning.
At around 9:30 a.m. on November 10, Sûreté du Québec officers stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 148 in Litchfield after it was seen doing 124 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The driver gave police a false name and initially claimed he didn’t have documentation because the car was rented. After refusing to cooperate further, he was arrested for obstruction. A search of the vehicle turned up tools as well as several gift, credit and debit cards, some with different names.
According to a police press release, at the station the suspect provided his real name and admitted he lied because he had outstanding warrants in Ontario. The SQ were informed by police in Ontario that the vehicle was stolen, as were several identity documents and tools.
The man was turned over to the OPP but could face charges in Quebec for possessing stolen goods, obstructing an officer, and identity theft.
