New rest area opening soon in Mansfield

15 June 2023 à 3:51 pm

A new rest area is about to open in Mansfield-et-Pontefract, located near the Georges-Bryson Museum and the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge. This new rest area includes a high-tech self-cleaning washroom. Louis Harvey from the Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract explained how it works.

“And yes, I am, as you say, completely flabbergasted by the quality of the equipment we have here,” he said (translated). “So, on the outside, we have three light indicators: free, cleaning cycle and occupied. So, the person goes to the toilet block, opens the door, goes inside and automatically, the door is locked. Don’t worry, there’s a sensor that prevents you from being locked out for more than 20 minutes. So, you proceed to the hygiene of your person and thereafter, there is a button inside, you press on the button, the door opens thereafter, it closes and a cleaning operation is done at the level of the toilets.”

The washroom is equipped with cutting-edge technology, and can even manage different soap or toilet paper requirements remotely.

“In other words, whatever happens, there’s a text message that’s sent through this system,” he explained (translated). “If, for example, we run out of soap or toilet paper, or there’s a person inside who doesn’t want to leave, because there’s maximum use in the toilet, no one  can stay and sleep in there. Then there are all the heat and water supply parameters. So, everything is controlled by this system, and we can also control the washing parameters and the maintenance parameters, but they, over there, can, by internet connection, control.”

The full (French-language) report on the new rest area is available here.
