Liberals name Fortin chief whip, critic for higher education and agriculture

26 June 2025 à 2:36 pm

In a statement issued earlier today (June 26), the Quebec Liberal Party named their new caucus responsibilities following the election of leader Pablo Rodriguez earlier this month.

Pontiac MNA André Fortin, who previously served as the party’s critic for health care, was named chief whip as well as critic for higher education. He will retain his role as critic for agriculture and forestry. The chief whip is responsible for party discipline and other procedural duties in the legislature. The Liberal’s health critic dossier will pass to former interim leader Marc Tanguay.

“Proud of the team,” Fortin wrote on social media (translated). “With them, I will fight to ensure farmers receive the support they deserve, so that young people can envision a future in our forestry towns, and so that higher education is valued at the level of students’ ambitions.”

Since Rodriguez has indicated he will not seek a seat in the National Assembly until the general election, which is scheduled for next fall at the latest, he named Marwah Rizqy as the parliamentary leader for the official opposition.
