CHIP 101.9 will once again be taking part in the Leucan Outaouais Chefs’ Challenge, a major fundraising event for an organization that supports children with cancer and their families. This year, for the third year in a row, half of the funds raised will be donated to the Maison Papillon Enfants et familles project, a pediatric palliative care home.

The Maison Papillon project was born in 2019 when three Outaouais parents and professionals joined forces for a common cause: to respond to the need for pediatric palliative care in the region. From this initiative was born the Maison Papillon Enfants et Familles, an ambitious project aimed at offering adapted support to children at the end of life and their families.

In a French-language interview, Josianne T Lavoie, project manager for Maison Papillon, explained how the project came about:

The project: to build and operate a facility with eight rooms, including two family suites, to ensure a warm and supportive environment for young patients and their families. This project, a first in the region, aims to fill a major gap in pediatric palliative care in the Outaouais, where this type of service is currently non-existent. The municipality of Cantley has donated land for the project, and construction is due to start this year, with a view to opening in 2026.

Lavoie lost her daughter Arielle to cancer in 2021. She presented her vision of the future hospice:

Almost $7 million has been raised out of a total of $10.9 million for this campaign, which includes construction and the first years of operation. Lavoie hopes that the Défi des chefs will add another $325,000 to their funding.

The event will take place on March 27 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Conference Centre. From CHIP 101.9, Marie Gionet will be joined by Bistro Montebello and young Belha, a child ambassador for Leucan. Tickets are available here.
