Julien Gagnon named MRC’s Head of Civil Security
At the MRC Pontiac council of mayors monthly public meeting on April 16, council approved the promotion of public security coordinator Julien Gagnon to a newly created management post of Head of Civil Security. The recommendation came from the MRC’s HR committee, which is made up of both elected officials and staff.
Speaking after the meeting, Gagnon explained that due to recent changes to the provincial Fire Safety Act and civil security legislation, MRC’s have been delegated more responsibility, particularly when it comes to emergency preparedness. These increased responsibilities come with an increase in the administrative burden, necessitating a restructuring of the department.
Gagnon explained that in the next few years they will be adding to the department and reorganizing certain tasks. Recall the MRC’s previous announcement that they would pay for the schooling for a fire prevention technician to avoid outsourcing the inspections of high-risk structures to a private company.
