On October 17th, the 77th congress of the Canadian Association for French Language Education (ACELF) was held, the largest gathering in French language education in Canada. The event took place this year in Laval, and a significant delegation from l’école secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge was present. Principal Julie Martin, and teacher Isabelle Nadeau jointly won the national Passeur culturel award.

The Passeur culturel award highlights the actions of remarkable educators who make a difference by generously and passionately sharing their interests in Francophone culture and the French language. The recipients were nominated by ACELF members and selected by their board of directors.

In a (French-language) interview with CHIP 101.9, Nadeau gives some details about this award and explains why they were chosen.

L’école secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge can rely on an innovative educational and cultural team. Among the initiatives implemented, the reorganization of the library and the “Cultural Ambassadors” project play a central role in strengthening students’ pride in their Francophone identity. Nadeau also spoke about other initiatives in their efforts to promote the French language.

Nadeau is also involved with the CHIP 101.9 in the Artist of the Month project organized by cultural host Marie Gionet.

The ACELF is a pan-Canadian network of expertise in identity construction that supports educators in French language education in Canada, strengthening their agency and leadership to help young people make a significant place for the French language and Francophone culture in their daily lives.
