Jennifer Quaile acclaimed as Otter Lake mayor
As of December 20, 2024, Jennifer Quaile is the new mayor of Otter Lake. The former councillor and pro-mayor was the only resident to submit their candidacy and was acclaimed to the post.
Former Mayor Terry Lafleur left in September to take on the position of assistant director general at MRC Pontiac and Quaile has been serving as acting mayor in his absence. Her council seat will remain vacant until the next municipal elections in November 2025.
Quaile grew up in the municipality and following a career in Ottawa at Employment and Social Development Canada, she resumed living in Otter Lake full-time in 2019. She was elected to council seat 2 in 2021 with nearly 80% of the vote, in her first foray into municipal politics.
She said that her priority in the last year of the mandate would be to improve the town’s waste management practices and work to limit the spread of Eurasian milfoil in local lakes.
In her role at the MRC, Quaile said that she would like to see more equitable calculations of municipal shares, and improved transparency.
