In a statement to residents, Fort-Coulonge Mayor Christine Francoeur declared that the municipal library, which shares a building with the municipal office, was closing its doors, effective tomorrow (December 3). The decision was made during a special council meeting on December 2.

Francoeur stated that it was a financial decision and noted that the library was only used by 5% of citizens. More details will come when the budget is tabled in the coming days. Citizens who have books or other items checked out must return them no later than Wednesday, December 7. However, the Christmas activity with Santa Claus scheduled for December 17 will still take place.

Francoeur’s full statement is below:

Christine Francoeur will be interviewed in the coming days at CHIP 101.9’s studio, following the tabling of the budget.
