FilloGreen representative responds to fine from ministry
Following an announcement earlier this month from the provincial Ministry of Environment ordering a local waste management company to pay $125,000, a representative of Centre FilloGreen has responded to the situation.
In a press release issued June 4, the ministry announced that on April 14 of this year, 9231-6082 Québec inc., known as Centre FilloGreen, was found guilty of violating Article 66 of the province’s environmental law for improper storage of materials, offences dating back to 2018.
FilloGreen representative Laurent Kiefer explained that they were a little surprised to receive the fine when they did, as they had signed an agreement with the ministry in May 2021 settling their previous infractions. He said that while waiting on approval for a technical landfill to inter some of the construction waste that they sort on site, they had stockpiled some material in anticipation that the approval was near. He added that they eventually received approval for the landfill for their construction material in June, 2021 and said that he suspected the pandemic played a role in the delay between the infractions and the charges.
Kiefer said that the fine they were facing was initially around $400,000, but they settled for roughly a quarter of that. He emphasized that they are now in good standing with the ministry, and pointed to the fact that they had been approved for a landfill for their construction waste, as well as a transfer station for the municipal garbage they’re responsible for as well.
