Des Collines police investigating flaming camper trailer, possible shots fired near Quyon
After more than a week of radio silence, the MRC des Collines police have released a public statement regarding a flaming camping trailer that was abandoned outside the fire station in Quyon on October 28, and possible gun shots fired at a witness.
The story was first reported by Gatineau radio station 104.7 Outaouais, who received an exclusive interview with a volunteer firefighter from a neighbouring municipality who witnessed the incident and attempted to follow the suspect. The witness, who was granted anonymity, said he saw a pickup truck towing a flaming camping trailer into the village of Quyon, starting several small fires in the brush along the route. After abandoning the trailer outside the Quyon fire hall, the witness said that he called 911 and was shot at after pursuing the suspect along chemin de la Swamp.
Despite several attempts, CHIP 101.9 was unable to interview a representative of des Collines police. Requests to the Municipality of Pontiac’s fire department also went unanswered.
On November 6, des Collines police released a statement noting that they had been investigating the case since October 28.
“At this point, investigators are still determining the accuracy of certain facts and the circumstances surrounding the incident and are awaiting certain forensic results,” the statement notes. “As the investigation shows, this was an isolated incident in which public safety is not at risk.”
The statement adds that information about the incident can be submitted confidentially by calling 1-800-711-1800 or online at https://signalement.echecaucrime.com/.
