Christine Francoeur talks Fort-Coulonge budget: taxes stable, services increasing

2 February 2023 à 11:05 am

As part of our coverage of municipal budgets throughout the Pontiac, CHIP 101.9 spoke with Fort-Coulonge Mayor Christine Francoeur about what’s ahead for the municipality in 2023. She said that they had done their best not to increase taxes for residents.

However, they have increased the cost of services, including waste collection, snow removal and water, by $66 per resident.

“I must say that, the budget, in total, yes, we have an increase this year, but it is not an increase like last year, not at all. So that’s a pretty reasonable increase,” she said (translated). “We worked hard to be able to find ways to keep it as low as possible in all areas of the municipality. On the services side, yes, it gives us a $66 increase, but people, they have to take into consideration all the increases that are everywhere. So, as I told you earlier, we worked hard to keep it reasonably low.”

Note that the municipal council of has confirmed that the treatment of biting insects, which has been in place for a few years now, will be back in the spring.
