A New Free Workshop to Help Seniors Identify Misinformation and Stay Better Informed

4 February 2026 à 11:18 am

As misleading online content continues to grow, the Quebec Centre for Media and Information Literacy (CQÉMI) is launching Info or Misinformation? A User’s Guide, a free workshop designed to help seniors identify misinformation and make informed decisions. Fake news, financial scams, questionable health advice, and videos altered by artificial intelligence—forms of misinformation are becoming increasingly widespread and sophisticated. Seniors are particularly vulnerable to this phenomenon, which can sometimes have serious consequences for their health, finances, or trust in information. Eve Beaudin, journalist and Vice-President of the Quebec Centre for Media and Information Literacy (CQÉMI), explains the objectives of the workshop:

Eve Beaudin explains how the workshop is tailored to the specific needs of seniors, particularly those who are less comfortable with technology:

Lasting 75 minutes, the workshop is led by a professional journalist and gives participants the opportunity to better understand the journalist’s work and role in providing reliable, verified information. It can be delivered in person or online. The Info or Misinformation? A User’s Guide workshop is free and is intended for organizations, libraries, seniors’ residences, and community groups seeking to better equip older adults. It is funded by Quebec’s Ministry of Culture and Communications, as well as the McConnell Foundation.
