Police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Pontiac MRC station conducted a road safety operation last Friday (August 1) on Route 148 in Campbell’s Bay. The operation focused specifically on the mechanical and physical condition of vehicles that do not comply with road safety code standards. A total of 76 tickets were issued for various offences, several of which were for applying or having applied to the windshield or front door windows of a road vehicle a substance that impairs or obstructs visibility from inside or outside the vehicle. The SQ reports that it also impounded two vehicles and seized another vehicle.
The SQ reports that the front side windows of the vehicle must allow 70% or more light to pass through when measured with a photometer. It is also important that a strip no more than 15 cm wide may be placed on the upper part of the windshield. No material or substance may be applied or sprayed on the windshield.
The rear side windows and rear window are not subject to these rules. The key point to remember is that it must be possible to see inside the vehicle and distinguish its occupants. This operation was carried out as part of the transportation network safety strategy entitled “Human life at the heart of our actions.”
