ZEC Rapides-des-Joachims opens new office

4 October 2024 à 3:59 pm

On Friday (October 4), a small crowd gathered outside the ZEC Rapides-des-Joachims for the grand opening of their new office. The event was attended by Pontiac MNA André Fortin, Warden Jane Toller and Rapides Mayor Lucie Rivet Paquette, who is also an employee of the ZEC.

A ZEC, or controlled harvesting zone, is public land used for hunting, fishing or other outdoors activities and administered by a non-profit group.

President Mario Rollin explained that they had initially planned to renovate their old office space, but eventually decided to just replace the building, which was constructed in the late 70s and was in bad shape. He said the overall cost of the project was around $150,000.

The new building has living accommodations for game wardens or board members who need a place to stay overnight.  Rollin said that they received a lot of help from one of their members, Alain Gervais, who is the president of construction company Industries CAMA.

The full interview with Rollin (7m35) is available here.
