Fire destroys barn in Clarendon

Fire destroys barn in Clarendon

3 October 2023 à 11:48 am

At around 6 p.m. Monday (October 2), fire crews were called to a building fire on C390 chemin de Campbell’s Bay in Clarendon.  When they arrived, they found a barn was fully engulfed in flame.

Shawville Clarendon Fire Chief Lee Laframboise said that they responded with about 19 firefighters and the Campbell’s Bay Litchfield Department also responded with around the same amount of personnel. He said that they were on scene for roughly three hours extinguishing the blaze. He also noted that the department’s new ladder truck was put to good use, allowing them to spray water down on hard to reach areas in the upper part of the building.

“All  the beams up top and there’s hay lying from hay mows and stuff,” he said. “You can’t get up there so you have to keep pouring water on it, but if you have the ladder over the top and you shoot the pressure down, you can clean off all the logs and spread all the hay out and stuff like that.”

No injuries were reported, but the barn was a total loss. Laframboise said that the barn didn’t contain equipment or animals.

He declined to comment on possible causes of the blaze.
