First annual Maurice Beauregard Memorial 3-pitch ball tournament raises more than $23,000
The ball field in Campbell’s Bay was busy over the weekend (May 26-28) for the first annual Maurice Beauregard Memorial 3-pitch ball tournament. In total, fourteen teams took part across two divisions. In the Open Division, Fully Loaded won over the Hitmen 6-3 and in the Rec Division the Rebels beat Team 5 16-6.
This is the first tournament held in memory of the town’s former mayor, who passed away from cancer in October 2022. His wife Kelly McMahon explained that the event would be raising money for three $500 leadership and community bursaries for Pontiac graduates, with any remainder going towards improvements to Maurice Beauregard Park. In addition to his contributions to municipal politics, Beauregard was heavily involved at the local ball field, so a tournament in his memory was a logical choice.
She explained that she and Maurice had met on the baseball diamond when they were both students at Heritage College in Gatineau. Sunday would have been their 18th wedding anniversary.
Speaking after the weekend, McMahon said that they had raised more than $23,000 before expenses, a result that was far beyond her expectations.
