The Downtown Drag fundraiser that took place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fort-Coulonge on March 12 brought in $14,875 for the Centre de Loisirs des Draveurs Century 21 Elite. Organizer Matthew Armour said that the event was a success, not only financially but personally as well.

“I [didn’t expect so much] support at all, in terms of interest,” he said (tr.). “You know, we’re going to be honest, with 350 people who came to a drag show in Fort-Coulonge, it’s still something we’ve never seen. We made history in the Pontiac with the biggest show in the Pontiac. It was truly a dream come true for me. Listen, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, so it was a big hit.”

Pontiac MNA André Fortin has also chipped in $8,000 to the arena, which is in dire need of a new compressor.

Several sponsors contributed to the event: the Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract, the Municipality of the Village of Fort-Coulonge, MP Sophie Chatel, MB Salon, Uniprix Clinic Pavlina Zhivkov, as well as several volunteers and Suzie Labine who donated $1,120 from a volleyball tournament she organized the same day.
