Bats Reported at Campbell’s Bay Courthouse: SQI Responds After Three Weeks

Three weeks after CHIP 101.9 revealed the presence of bats inside the Campbell’s Bay Courthouse, the station has received an official response.

On August 28, CHIP 101.9 published a photo showing bats in the courthouse. After seeking answers from the ministry, the Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) responded in an email dated September 17.

The SQI confirmed that the issue raised by CHIP 101.9 is being addressed and emphasized that the courthouse remains in good condition. “The government condition index for this building is B, meaning it is considered in good shape. As with the rest of the SQI’s property portfolio, the courthouse undergoes regular maintenance, and priority work is identified and carried out,” the agency explained.

The SQI also noted that, in addition to pest control measures, several maintenance projects have been completed in recent years. These include upgrades to mechanical systems, interior renovations, and work to improve the building’s weatherproofing.

CHIP 101.9’s August 28 report highlighted several issues at the Campbell’s Bay Courthouse. The investigation further revealed that the presence of bats—and even other animals—inside the building is not a new occurrence.
