Shawville Lions’ 12th Country Jamboree kicks off
On Thursday evening (July 17), Armstrong Heritage Farm just outside Shawville was starting to swell with RVs and camper trailers as the Shawville Lions’ Country Jamboree got underway.
President Ed Walsh explained that this is the organization’s biggest fundraiser every year, attracting hundreds of people over the course of the weekend. He said that as of Thursday evening they had 120 campers registered and were aiming for around 150 total, which is roughly how many they had last year.
On the stage performing over Friday and Saturday there will be a mix of local favorites like Gail Gavan and Des Allen, as well as others from the valley and beyond.
Walsh said that the money they raise goes to a wide variety of community projects, from helping people going through difficult times, to supporting the local arena fund.
Walsh, who’s been a member of the Lions for 16 years, added that they are always looking for new members.
