Big turnout for men’s night fundraiser for Shawville arena

Roughly 600 people showed up to the Shawville arena this past Friday night (May 9) to take part in a sizable fundraiser for the future of the institution.

Organized by a group called the Pontiac Arena Fund, the night featured a large auction and guest speakers.

Committee member Mike Rusenstrom said that he was very pleased with the turnout, and thanked the numerous citizens, organizations and businesses that took part. He said that while it was still early to give a tally of the amount raised, he estimated that it was over $150,000, which included a cheque from the Shawville Lions Club for $50,000.

The next fundraiser for the arena will be a visit from the RCMP’s Musical Ride on Sunday, June 1.
