Historic Egan Mill reopens in Quyon

Historic Egan Mill reopens in Quyon

27 June 2025 à 1:33 pm

On Friday morning (June 27) the streets of Quyon were buzzing with people for the grand re-opening of the historic Egan Mill.

The first mill in the town was constructed by local lumber baron John Egan in the mid-1800s, though the current building has sat unused for more than a decade. The opening day celebrations featured music, historical displays in the old mill building and even a reenactment of a famous duel that Egan fought back in his day. In addition to flour, the site will have a museum portion, as well as an ice cream stand outside.

Owners Marc Bergeron and Isabelle Lajoie purchased the mill at auction back in 2022 and following renovations the space is finally ready to produce flour. Addressing the audience in French, Bergeron said that he was excited for local crops to be processed, prepared and consumed locally.

Lajoie, overcome with emotion at times, said that they would be looking to expand their product line in the future.

Pontiac MNA André Fortin, who grew up in Quyon and attended daycare across the street, said that he was glad that someone had invested in the iconic structure.

Municipality of Pontiac Mayor Roger Larose applauded Lajoie and Bergeron for their hard work, and said that Quyon serves as the gateway to the Pontiac region.
