450 tickets issued by the SQ during winter driving operations

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has published a report on winter driving operations in the Western District. More than 450 tickets have been issued to various offenders with regard to violations of the Highway Safety Code. According to the SQ, half of the findings relate to the main causes of fatal collisions, which are speeding, cell phone use while driving and not wearing a seat belt. About sixty tickets are related to the offenses targeted in winter strategy and the main causes of collisions. The police paid particular attention to the following offenses:

* Article 335: Safe tracking distance between vehicles;

* Article 406.2: Safety corridor for emergency vehicles or tow trucks;

* Article 270: Non-compliant tires

* Article 440.1: Winter tires;

* Article 330: The speed not adapted to the conditions;

* Article 237 and 238: Headlights and lights blocked

* Article 281.1: Windows blocked while driving

* Article 498.1: Bad snow removal from a vehicle

The simultaneous operation involved 31 units in the Western District, that is to say from the Mauricie, Lanaudière, Laurentides and Outaouais regions, including the territory of the MRC Pontiac.
