Last Friday’s strong winds and tornado in the Outaouais and eastern Ontario have had significant impacts in the region, including in the municipality of Pontiac, which mobilized its emergency measures committee after being hit by the tornado in the eastern part of the municipality. Mayor Joanne Labadie spoke in an interview with CHIP 101.9, about how the municipality handled the situation in recent days.

According to Mme Labadie, there are about a hundred residences that have been affected to different degrees, and about twenty houses show significant damage. She did however indicated that the municipality was fortunate that there were no serious injuries, and emphasizes the mutual assistance shown by the Pontiac community.

Mme. Labadie also warned residents that it is possible that power may be interrupted again in the coming days and suggests that residents be prepared for this.

The Municipality of Pontiac’s public works team is now concentrating on cleaning and clearing up roads and infrastructure. Property owners must take care of the cleaning of their own land.
