Study on the lack of public health funding commissioned by the Conférence des préfets de l’Outaouais

The Conférence des préfets de l’Outaouais (CPO), of which the Pontiac is part of, revealed that it now has indicators that will allow it to follow the evolution of the file relating to the significant delay accumulated in the Outaouais with regard to public funding in health, higher education and culture.

Recalling the motion of October 30, 2019 in the National Assembly of Quebec, which unanimously adopted a motion tabled by the Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, as an administrative region “ with significant particularities ” which bring ” significant challenges given its border location with Ottawa ”, the CPO mentions having commissioned a study from the Observatoire du développement de l’Outaouais (ODO). This study documents, according to the CPO, data concerning the lack of public funding in the Outaouais. The report has just been submitted and the CPO intends to follow up on this file, which is essential to the development of the region. It will make it possible to concretely measure the will of the Government of Québec to ensure the significant catch-up to which the National Assembly has committed.

“If the motion adopted by the National Assembly has made it possible to recognize the particular situation of the Outaouais and the unique challenges that the region faces because of its border situation with the federal capital, it must be accompanied by concrete actions. The work of the ODO will henceforth enable us to measure the efforts made to make up for the delay in the offer of programs in the postsecondary education network and in the financing of the health network and the impact of the means put in forward to diversify our economy,” said CPO President Benoît Lauzon.
