15 April 2020 à 12:00 am

As of April 15th, 2020, landscaping and maintenance companies, namely nurseries, garden centers and swimming pool businesses can resume their activities.

“We want to allow citizens to whom are ask to stay at home to carry out the development and exterior maintenance of their home if they wish,” said the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Pierre Fitzgibbon. With the addition of this essential service, they will be able to continue shopping in hardware stores and will now be able to shop in nurseries and garden centers.”

The Direction de la santé public has also provided health instructions that must be followed by companies, to ensure the safety and health of workers and of the population regarding COVID-19.

This resumption of activities will be beneficial to the horticultural market across Quebec, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, André Lamontagne: “This gesture will allow horticultural producers to market their production and citizens to engage in gardening. In the current health context, building a vegetable garden can be an exciting and even useful hobby to promote food self-sufficiency,” he added.

The list of priority services and activities, which will be gradually updated by the Government of Quebec, can be found on the website Québec.ca / coronavirus.

If a company is in doubt as to the designation, it is possible to carry out a verification by filling in the online form for this purpose; a government official will contact the company afterwards.

Note that mining activities, as well as vehicle maintenance and repair services will also resume as of April 15th.
