The Sûreté du Québec confirmed that they have recovered a body following a house fire that destroyed a home on Rte. 303 in Ladysmith early Wednesday morning.

The coroner will be the one to release the identity of the victim once their assessment is complete. Immediately following the blaze, police told the public that an octogenarian, who had been in the home, had been declared missing.

Emergency services were initially called around midnight on Wednesday morning, and the road was temporarily closed. Once extinguished, the scene was handed over to the SQ and a fire technician with the Major Crimes Investigation Division is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
