Outgoing L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Mayor Serge Newberry’s hearing before the Quebec Municipal Commission (CMQ) has been postponed. This is the second delay to the hearing, as it was originally scheduled to take place in September but had been bumped to this week. CHIP 101.9 has not confirmed the new schedule for the hearing.
Newberry is accused of several breaches of the municipal ethics code, including disrespectful remarks to other councillors and directors general dating back as far as 2017. A new accusation from the previous director general was filed in August relating to an incident that allegedly occurred in June 2021.
Since Newberry is not seeking re-election, his term as mayor will end on November 7.
