Cases of attempted fraud have been reported after the Federal governments announcement Wednesday of financial assistance available to workers whose jobs were affected by COVID-19.
During his daily press briefing, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, denounced the attempts of fraudsters against people in precarious financial situations.
The scams have taken on the form of a text message indicating that the person has received a Canadian Emergency Benefit deposit. Citizens who receive this message must not reply to it or click on the link. They must delete the text message and educate those around them to be vigilant.
