As the construction holidays have begun, the Sûreté du Québec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Outaouais, Laurentides, Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean and Côte-Nord have simultaneously undertaken a large road safety operation on the major routes in their respective regions.

In total, more than 40 officers from the three regions recorded 731 infractions.

For the Outaouais and Hautes-Laurentides, officers handed out:

– 234 tickets for excessive speeding
– 3 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt
– 1 ticket for passing illegally
– 1 ticket for using a cell phone while driving
– 57 tickets for various violations of the Highway Safety Code

For Abitibi-Témiscamingue:

– 116 tickets for excessive speeding
– 3 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt
– 1 ticket for passing illegally
– 48 tickets for various violations of the Highway Safety Code

For Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean:

– 129 tickets for excessive speeding
– 3 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt
– 1 ticket for using a cell phone while driving
– 8 tickets for various violations of the Highway Safety Code

For Côte-Nord:

– 83 tickets for excessive speeding
– 1 ticket for not wearing a seatbelt
– 2 tickets for using a cell phone while driving
– 10 tickets for various violations of the Highway Safety Code

The construction holiday period is the time of year with the highest number of collisions causing injury and death in Quebec.
