In a press release on Thursday, Pontiac MNA Will Amos confirmed that one hundred and ninety-seven small businesses, not-for-profit organizations and municipalities in the federal riding of Pontiac have received funding under the 2018 Canada Summer Jobs program to hire 281 local students this summer.

The investment represents a total of $ 738,881 in Pontiac. Since 2015, the Government of Canada has doubled the number of jobs created under the Canada Summer Jobs program, creating lucrative and interesting job opportunities for nearly 70,000 students per year. Employers in the non-profit sector were eligible for a grant of up to 100% of the hourly minimum wage. Small businesses with 50 employees or less and public sector employers could receive a subsidy of up to half the hourly minimum wage.

William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac said that by helping local businesses, municipalities and non-profit organizations hire summer students, we are enabling our youth to find meaningful employment without having to leave their communities.
