Youth leaders with Maison des Jeunes fundraising for trip
Two youth leaders with the Pontiac Maison des Jeunes (MDJ) are putting together a trip for their peers, and are raising money by hosting two dances in the coming weeks.
Sasha Laporte and Emma Rochon are both students at ESSC, and youth leaders at the MDJ (known by their French title “animateurs”). Laporte explained that they had come up with the idea of doing glow in the dark mini-golf at Putting Edge in Ottawa during a discussion with MDJ coordinator Desiree Tremblay Giroux.
The mini-golf trip is for children 12 and up and is scheduled for April 22. The group will leave Mansfield at 2 p.m., making several pick-up stops along Hwy. 148 on their way, and will return around 8:30 p.m. The cost is $20 and the deadline for registration is April 15.
To fundraise for the event, the pair are organizing two dances for their peers at the Maison des Jeunes location in Mansfield (298a rue Principale). The first is a spring dance on April 8 from 7-10 p.m. for ages 11 and up. There is a $2 entrance fee and they will be serving snow cones and popcorn. The second is a “Bunny hop dance” for children 10 and under which will take place on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. The entry fee is also $2 and Laporte explained that there will be plenty of activities.
For more information on any of these events, you can call the MDJ’s Mansfield office at 819 683 1044 or contact Tremblay Giroux directly at 819 209 7626 or mdjdesiree@gmail.com
