William Amos pleased with the scientific assessment of plastic pollution

3 February 2020 à 12:00 am

In a press release, the Member of Parliament for the Pontiac William Amos said he was pleased that the Government of Canada released a draft scientific assessment of plastic pollution, which highlights the magnitude of plastic pollution in Canada.

This assessment confirms that larger plastics, such as bags and straws can cause physical harm to animals and their habitat.

“Our government knows how important it is to tackle the problem of plastic pollution in Canada, and we are determined to follow through on our commitment to ban harmful single-use plastics as early as 2021, because it is what Canadians across the country, including in my riding of Pontiac, expect from us”, said MP William Amos.

This draft scientific assessment of plastic pollution will help guide the Government of Canada in taking action and establishing policy to fulfill its commitment to ban harmful single-use plastics. The government is working to put in place new regulation as soon as the scientific evidence is made available; proving it reasonable to make concrete decisions.

When addressing the Government’s decision to further invest in to research on the environmental impact of plastics, Will Amos said: “I am pleased with the Government of Canada’s decision to invest more in research that will help us better understand the impacts of plastic pollution.”
