William Amos highlights $ 25.7 million invested in national museums
Pontiac MP William Amos highlighted $ 25.7 million in new funding for national museums, including the Museum of Nature located in the riding of Pontiac.
“The Museum of Nature, whose head office is located in the Plateau sector in Gatineau, is an important research entity at the national and international level. I am particularly proud that Pontiac County benefits from its presence and its exceptional team of researchers and administrators,” said Amos.
Funding announced by the Government of Canada will be distributed to, among others, the following museums: the Museum of Nature, the Canadian Museum of History, the National Gallery of Canada and the Canada Science and Technology Museum. “They are important cultural, scientific and historical institutions. They play a vital role in preserving our heritage and the education of Canadians, and are engines of innovation”, added Will Amos.
The purpose of this investment is to help these organizations maintain their essential services and be ready to reopen their doors to the public once the precautionary measures are lifted. Remember that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these national museums closed their doors on March 14th.
“In addition to the Museum of Nature, it must also be remembered that the entire National Capital Region, including the County of Pontiac, benefits greatly from tourism associated with world-class attractions such as the Canadian Museum of History, the Museum National Gallery of Canada and the Canada Science and Technology Museum. It is therefore also a question of development and economic recovery from which the voters of the Pontiac benefit directly”, said Mr. Amos. The money will also be used to support and protect jobs in national institutions.
Note that with its Canada Economic Response Plan to respond to COVID-19, the Government of Canada is taking several measures to support Canadians, businesses and organizations affected by COVID-19.
