Pontiac MP William Amos commented in a press release on his government’s initiative to create up to 700 new jobs for young people in the agricultural sector.

Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau announced an investment of $9.2 million to improve the Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP). The MP for Pontiac mentioned that he meets regularly with his colleagues on his government’s support for producers in the region.

“From time to time, we need a doctor, a lawyer and a police officer. But every day, three times a day, you need a farmer. That is why I am satisfied with the announcement made by the Government of Canada that will allow young people to find employment in the agricultural sector, “said Mr. Amos.

According to the William Amos press release, this additional funding will help the agricultural sector to employ young Canadians aged 15 to 30 since the YESP will provide agricultural employers with up to 50% of the cost of hiring a young Canadian up to $14 000. This program aims to offer young people, and in particular young people facing obstacles to employment, agricultural work experience that will give them work experience related to their career. Aboriginal applicants and those hiring youth facing barriers are eligible for funding up to 80% of their costs.

The application forms are available via the Youth Employment and Skills Program Requests will be processed on a “first come, first served” basis.
