William Amos announces investments in Canadian innovations in green technology
The MP for Pontiac, William Amos, who also assumes the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Science, has announced an investment of over $ 55 million that will be used to support research and development projects aimed at finding solutions environment in the energy, agriculture and resource sectors.
This $ 55.1 million investment in 20 clean tech companies across Canada through Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC). This investment will support small and medium-sized businesses that develop innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, limit the environmental impact of conventional mining methods and support sustainable agricultural practices.
“As Canada continues its efforts to overcome the unprecedented challenges caused by the pandemic, the government is making investments now that will allow us to join forces to change the game and build a strong, green and resilient economy. The support announced today will consolidate Canada’s leadership in the growing global cleantech market and ensure a sustainable future for all Canadians. This is a key part of our net-zero climate plan, ”believes Pontiac MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Science William Amos.
Today’s support builds on the government’s strengthened climate plan announced by Prime Minister Trudeau on December 11, which provides $ 750 million over five years to refinance SDTC. The Canadian government says this is the largest one-time investment the Government of Canada has ever made to SDTC. This will help SDTC support more Canadian entrepreneurs working to develop and commercialize innovative clean technologies that will benefit the world.
“The Canadian cleantech sector is dynamic, and its influence continues to grow. The government is committed to supporting the important activities of this sector. Canadian cleantech companies, like the ones getting funding today, are a critical part of our plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create economic opportunities across the country, ”said Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Jonathan Wilkinson.

* SDTC is an independent federal foundation that funds companies with the potential to become world leaders in new environmental technologies and help drive Canada’s economic and environmental prosperity.
* Based on data collected up to March 2020, SDTC-supported companies generated annual revenues of $ 2.7 billion, created more than 14,600 jobs and brought 126 new technologies to market.
* SDTC-funded technologies reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 19.3 megatonnes of CO2 each year.
