Why is there a second wave of floods on its’ way?

While in several areas of the Ottawa River the water levels have stabilized after a first major floods, others such as Coulonge Lake are expected to increase significantly by Friday and cause a second flood on the Pontiac territory. The chief engineer of the Ottawa River Regulation planning board, Manon Lalonde, explained the reason for the phenomenon.

What is currently concerning residents in the Pontiac are the water levels in the Coulonge Lake. In response to these concerns, Lalonde explained that the reservoirs that influence the level of the Ottawa River adjust to balance the risk of flooding around the facility. There is no sector that has more of an advantage over another.

As a result of this second wave of floods, water levels in the coming weeks will be fairly stable, although the decrease will be slow.

Water levels are expected to reach 109.30m above sea level by Friday at Coulonge Lake.
