White Ribbon Campaign underway in Pontiac
The White Ribbon Campaign is underway in the Pontiac region from November 25 to December 6, to advocate for an end to violence against women. The campaign, which started in 1991, begins on UN Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on the anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre.
In the Pontiac, workers from local women’s shelter L’EntourElle handed out ribbons at busy intersections throughout the region. Ribbons are also available at numerous local businesses.
CHIP 101.9 spoke with Julia Dumouchel, a community worker with L’EntourElle, who explained what their organization provides for vulnerable people in the community, from emergency housing to victims of domestic violence to accompanying people to court dates or other appointments.
Dumouchel said that there are numerous ways for someone in need to contact their organization, from Facebook and Instagram, to calling and email (819 683 2709 and lentourelle@bellnet.ca). The also have a portal on their website to send confidential messages.
