“When we compare ourselves to Ontario, we can say that our measures are working” – François Legault

It is no surprise that the special emergency measures have been extended for an additional week in the Outaouais region, including the MRC Pontiac. Quebec Premier François Legault announced yesterday that the closure of schools and non-essential businesses as well as the 8 p.m. curfew will be in effect until at least May 3.

Despite a still fragile situation in the Outaouais, François Legault said he was encouraged by comparing the situation in Quebec to that of Ontario.

“This is the region with the highest rate of positive tests. We have known for several years that hospital capacity is limited in the Outaouais and we have to transfer patients to the Laurentians. It’s really close to the hospital limit in the Outaouais, ”said François Legault, at a press briefing.

The number of active cases in the Pontiac decreases
As mentioned by Premier Legault, the number of active cases of COVID-19 for the Pontiac local service network has stabilized in the past few hours. The report from the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais indicates 52 active cases for the moment, as of April 20, for a total of 224 cases since the start of the pandemic.

The increase in cases across the Outaouais region was down from last week, with 101 new cases. Last week, the number of new cases was close to 200.

The number of cases classified by municipality should be updated over the next few hours. The summary of statistics from the CISSS de l’Outaouais is available here.
