The Western Quebec Literacy Council (WQLC), a non-profit dedicated to improving English-language reading and writing skills for local residents, is hosting a festival this weekend at Mill Dam Park in Shawville (74 Clarendon Street). The event, titled “Get the word out!”, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and will feature workshops and activities with a wide variety of writers and poets from the Pontiac and Ottawa area.

As WQLC Executive Director Greg Graham explained, the day will be devoted to a host of reading and writing activities.

The list of guests taking part in the event is a mix of well known local writers like Katharine Fletcher, to award-winning Ottawa poet Jamaal Jackson Rogers.

Graham added that the WQLC is always on the lookout for volunteers for a variety of positions, and explained the kinds of work that is entailed. More information is available by contacting info@wqlc.org, or visiting their website.

The full interview with Graham (5m55) is available here.
